High Water procedures

The level of Lake Johanna waters rises quickly after heavy rain events. Wave action during these events is damaging to shorelines and dock structures. The City of Arden Hills passed an ordinance on 6/11/2012 that established procedures for declaring a temporary “No Wake Zone” in emergency high water situations.

There is a water level gauge located to the East of the public boat landing. If you see that the water level is above 2.5 on this gauge, call the City of Arden Hills at 651-792-7846 and report this to the public works director. They will confirm the reading, and call a special council meeting to enact the high water declaration.

Once a temporary no wake zone has been declared, the city will post a sign at the public access, and all watercraft shall operate at slow-no wake speed on the entire lake.

The temporary no wake zone is lifted when the level on the gauge drops below 2.3 for 24 hours. The City will monitor the gauge and remove the signs when the restriction has been lifted.
