FIRST LAKE VEGETATION TREATMENT SCHEDULED
With our early spring has come a robust bloom of filamentous algae on portions of Lake Johanna. See this page on the LJIS web site for more information about filamentous algae.

Roberta Thompson worked extremely hard to get all the necessary paperwork (maps, property lists, etc.) to our contractor, Lake Restoration in preparation for the first lake vegetation treatment of the year. We have been waiting for the MN DNR, as they need to inspect the new properties that have been added to the treatment list this year. They have completed their inspection and issued the necessary permit. Lake Restoration is scheduled to do the first weed treatment the first part of next week. The treatment will take 2 days.

WINTER ICE OUT
Winter ice went out on March 29 this year. This was about a month earlier than ice-out the last couple of years. The earliest recorded ice-out is March 9, 2000 and the latest is April 29, 2013. Visit the LJIS website to see the complete ice-out history and other Lake Johanna resources.

FISH KILL
There are a large number of dead fish, mostly panfish (Sunfish, Crappie, and Bluegill) floating in the lake. We've received several inquiries from homeowners on the lake about this. We are trying to contact someone at the MN DNR to see if they can tell us what would have caused this. As soon as we know more, we'll send another email update.
