Information Bulletin #16

posted Feb 27, 2013, 4:53 AM by Keith Gilbert

The Annual Meeting of the Lake Johanna Improvement Society is now scheduled.  Please note that we will meet again this year at Northwestern College, but hope to return to the new Johanna Shores, Presbyterian Homes, next year when all of the construction has been completed.

Thursday, March 7
7:00 - 8:30 PM
Room 2300
Riley Hall
Northwestern College

Riley Hall is located in the center of the campus and has adjacent parking.  Northwestern will provide directional signs to make it easy to find the building location.

In addition to the short business portion of the meeting, which will include Board member elections and a financial report, the Board is arranging for some outside guests to address items that we think will be of interest to our members.  We'll send out a reminder at the end of February with an agenda.  Please plan on attending, and bring a neighbor.  You will have received your LJIS dues invoice by the time of the meeting, so you can also bring your check and save a stamp.

Lakeshore owners should receive their annual dues invoices shortly.  The Board will contract with Lake Restoration again for treatment services.  Your dues are based on the lakeshore footage that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has approved for treatment of your property.  The dues cover weed and algae treatments, Eurasian milfoil inspection, the DNR permit fee, goose removal, LJIS membership administration, and the annual picnic.

Jennie Michels has agreed to manage the goose removal program again this year, if needed.  The Association's goose removal program has significantly reduced the number of resident geese by removing as many as possible in early June of each year when they are molting and unable to fly.  Given the small number of geese that were removed last year, we'll have a discussion at the Annual Meeting and decide whether to suspend removal for a year, or continue to contract for removal.

The Board has decided to move the LJIS annual picnic up to mid-June, rather than the hold it at the end of the summer when many residents are away.  We're awaiting receipt of the pavilion permit for Tuesday evening, June 18 at Tony Schmidt Park.  Mari Salveson and Karen Krebsbach will make the picnic arrangements.  There also will be a 4th of July Boat Parade on Lake Johanna again this year.  We had a great turn-out last year with 15 boats participating in the parade.  Final details on both events will follow in a subsequent bulletin.
